Paul and I had a great weekend. Friday night we went for dinner with Carolyn & Jim (Paul's folks) and opened some Christmas presents. Carolyn crocheted a BEAUTIFUL brown throw for me... it is so soft and warm - the perfect thing for me.
Saturday we went down to Lakeville to have our annual Swedish Christmas meal with Paul's folks, cousins, aunt and uncle. We had a great day (even with a sinus headache that hung around all day). Although we failed to usurp the tradition of Swedish Christmas for Irish Christmas (it was a valiant effort), it was a good meal and we even managed to get some great roasted vegetables on the generally all-starch and meat menu. Not only did we eat Swedish food, but even though baby isn't here yet, we had baby's first Christmas - we now have our first baby toys courtesy of Carolyn and Jim and Roland and Linda (that and a "lovely" new Christmas sweater for Paul - insert sarcasm - and a "new" stereo for me, which were our winnings in the White Elephant exchange).
We ended the evening by watching a movie with Paul's cousin Eric and his wife Sarah. We watched Inception (our second viewing, their first). We got home at about 1am, which was a little late given we had church in the AM.
I'll be honest - I am NOT a morning person, especially on the weekend. I get cranky when I have to wake up early on Sunday. We got to church and went through the motions (I wasn't capable of much more than that on only 5 hours of sleep).
However, once the service started, I quickly realized it was baptism Sunday. For those non-religious readers out there, this is the week where they talk all about baptism. On top of that, there was also a baptism taking place in the service (the 5th kid for this couple) and one of Paul's ringer's baby granddaughter was there. It was like a baby explosion at church - they were everywhere! Sitting across the aisle from us was a 1 year old with the cutest little teddy blanket who had some funny antics throughout the service. I'm now deeming this baby Sunday.
The funny thing is, where me a few years ago would be annoyed with all the little kids running around, screaming, crying, etc., me now gets really excited about being a mommy. It was probably the most entertaining church service I've been to in a long time. In between the moments of being a little terrified, being a parent is really exciting. It's amazing how your life changes in such a short amount of time. I can't believe in less than 6 months, we'll have a new baby. It's insane, and crazy, and life-changing and I can't wait!
